The Irish Kidney Association are dedicated to meeting the needs of renal patients of all ages and their families and carers, living with and affected by end stage renal disease. These needs are spread across all aspects of life – medical, social and psychological.

INFORMATION

The Irish Kidney Association is dedicated to meeting the needs of people living with, or likely to be affected by, end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). These needs are spread across all aspects of life – medical, social, economic, and psychological. The profile of the kidney patient ranges from early life to the elderly who are undergoing various methods of treatment, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis or CAPD and patients who have received a kidney transplant.

Supports include:

  • Information, advocacy and advice, including a quarterly Support magazine, website, social media presence and Patient Guide booklets.
  • Patient support including navigating social welfare and financial support
  • Dublin Support Centre (Located at Beaumont Hospital). Provides free accommodation for: Kidney patients from outside the Dublin commuter belt who have kidney related hospital appointments and families of Kidney Patients from outside Dublin (no matter what Dublin hospital their family member is attending). Preference for accommodation is given to families of patients receiving kidney kidney/pancreas transplants from deceased and living donors and families of the seriously ill.
  • Free counselling for patients, parents or carers.
  • Peer Support service linking patients, parents or carers with patients who have had similar experiences, who are trained to offer support.
  • Holiday Homes for kidney patients and their families, and a holiday dialysis booking service for haemodialysis patients who wish to travel abroad.
